23 July: Luneville to Ensisheim

14061334937580I love the Vosges. I’ve been here in the past with my motorbike and I’m happy to be back. It has been a great day, for the first time without rain. There was fog this morning and I think for the first time in my life I saw sunflowers in the fog. After 40 km the road started to climb very gently and the fog cleared. At 63 km I went up the steepest climb of the day, just have a look at the profile available on Garmin connect (link below). I went through various WWI memorials and then at km 76 I started to descend, stopping frequently for pictures. I’m not going to describe everything, just have a look at the pictures… The route that I planned took me in the fields even today, which meant rerouting but, more importantly, more climbing :-(. After Colmar I followed a D road with a good cycle path. Unfortunately,  some big road works created a 6 km detour taking the overall distance to 142 km, 10 km more than planned! This is the trace: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/547799534
